Tyndaris

When he realized how much leniency
was necessary to direct one’s glance on the island
and at the same time which freshness
was demanded to take the reins of years
and reduce remembrances to notebooks

its vacuous memories were blue islands
unexploded hills of melancholy
he needed to set chimeras against the bite of time
tongues of fire reverberating softly
reflected on the bronze waves.

Saturated colors drunk in sips
filled and spilled from his eyes
child grown up in the mistral.
At the usual time, the light as orange blossom
makes a crock pitcher old.

Tindari

Resosi conto di quanta indulgenza
costasse posare lo sguardo sull’isola
e al tempo stesso di quale freschezza
esigesse tirare le redini agli anni
e ridurre in taccuini memorie

isole azzurre i suoi vacui ricordi
colline inesplose di malinconie
opporre chimere al morso del tempo
lingue di fuoco dal tenue riverbero
riflesse sulle onde di bronzo.

Colori saturi bevuti a sorsi
riempono e versano gli occhi di lui
ragazzo cresciuto a maestrale.
Solita ora, luce di zagara
invecchia una brocca di coccio.
